Aldi opens at O2 Centre this summer
Aldi, the UK’s fifth largest supermarket, will open in the O2 Centre on Finchley Road in the summer
The new store has taken the empty unit at the front of the Centre by the Finchley Road entrance previously occupied by Habitat.
Famous for its weekly offers and award-winning ‘Specially Selected’ range, Aldi has become a staple for those wanting quality at discounted prices. Each new store opening creates around 30 new jobs on average, boosting local employment opportunities.

Rebecca Ruddle, O2 Centre Director at Landsec commented: “We’ve been thinking a lot about the future of the O2 Centre and, in time, we will be creating a brand new neighbourhood here but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to make the most of what we have now. We’re working hard to make sure the O2 Centre is at the heart of our community and remains vibrant and relevant throughout the planning and potential development process. We’re determined to create a place for everyone to visit, to experience, learn, do and shop. Aldi is a great new addition to the centre, and we know that local people will be excited to have a new affordable, convenient store as part of our current mix of brands.”
Landsec has submitted a planning application for a new masterplan for the O2 Centre and surrounding land which will be considered by the London Borough of Camden later this year. The proposals include a new town square with shops, leisure and workplaces, alongside new homes and green open spaces, The O2 Centre will remain open during the first phase of construction, Landsec’s ambition is to retain a vibrant and varied retail offer for local people in the interim, with the new Aldi store playing an important role.
Tim Trillo, Project Lead for the O2 Centre Masterplan plans commented: “Our vision for the O2 Centre site is to create a truly inclusive new neighbourhood with shops and services, with something for suit everyone, whether that’s to do with cost, quality, convenience or providing local jobs and opportunities.
The reality is that the O2 Centre in its current format will be around for at least another five years as we go through the planning process and hopefully begin to deliver the first phase of the development on the car park site.
These plans include the eventual replacement of the O2 Centre with a flexible new town square for Finchley Road with shops, leisure spaces and restaurants fit for the future. In the meantime, we will continue to refresh and invest in the O2 Centre to ensure that its convenience offer remains relevant and valued by the community.”
